Overview

Deepwater mooring represents one of the most technically demanding applications for synthetic fibre rope — systems must hold multi-billion-dollar production platforms in position at water depths exceeding 1,000 metres, for design lives of 20 years or more, under continuous wave-cycle loading.

Our ropes are classification-approved and deployed on FPSOs, semi-submersibles, and tension-leg platforms in the world's deepest production fields.

At water depths exceeding 1,000 metres, mooring line self-weight becomes a critical design factor. Steel chain and wire rope become impractical — only synthetic fibre ropes offer the strength-to-weight ratio required for ultra-deep installations.
Fatigue from Wave-Cycle Loading
Mooring ropes on deepwater platforms experience millions of tension cycles from ocean waves over their service life. Internal fibre-on-fibre abrasion and creep must be managed to prevent progressive strength degradation.
Installation Complexity
Deploying mooring systems at extreme depths requires specialized vessels, precise tensioning, and engineered connection hardware. Rope handling, splicing, and load transfer procedures must be planned and executed with engineering precision.
20+ Year Design Life
Deepwater production platforms are designed for multi-decade operation. Mooring ropes must retain adequate strength and stiffness over 20+ years of continuous service without the ability to replace lines mid-life.
